At the end of 2007, I placed a subscription for the Linux Journal with magazinecity.com. It looks as if that was a mistake. No magazines have arrived, emails went unanswered. A phone call elicited the promise of an email. All the email said was that I should wait a couple of months. Further emails have been ignored. Put “magazinecity.com fraud” into Google and you will get a number of hits.
Since I wrote the above, there have been some further developments. On 28 July 2008, Magazine City had stated “Your order was submitted to the publisher soon after you placed it on our website”. After further exchanges, on 2 September 2007 the following was received: “After researching your complaint I have learned that for some inexplicable reason, your order was not received by the publisher.” It was said that the order could now be processed or a refund given. I opted for a refund. Further emails prevaricated about when the refund would be made.
Despite assurances, my credit card statement dated 9 October 2008 still does not show any refund.
